Another year, another success! Last Friday, 6th November, the sixth edition of CICLOPE Festival came to a close with an unforgettable awards ceremony held at Kino International and hosted by comedian Jarred Christmas.
During the gala, 75 entries were rewarded with Bronze, Silver and Gold trophies, and four won a Grand Prix: “Close to home” (by Anonymous Content & BBDO New York), “Left behinds” (by Rogue Films & Electric Theatre Collective), “Inside Abbey Road” (by Stinkdigital) and “Celebrate” (by Rogue Films & AMVBBDO). In this edition, the festival received more than 1,000 entries in 24 categories divided into five sections –Live Action, Animation, Sound, Digital and Special Section– and the jury panel was chaired by Jackie Kelman Bisbee (Park Pictures), Mike McGee (Framestore), Mandy Kothe (Wanda) and Sam Ashwell (750 RPM). “We are really happy with this year’s CICLOPE Festival”, says Francisco Condorelli, the event’s Founder and Executive Director. “We had more entries and more delegates than last year, but we still managed to keep the familiar atmosphere we like so much. And we also had more content, which is always great”.
The official program started on the morning of the 5th November with the Markets, a networking activity sponsored by Mamma Team, where more than 80 companies (full production, digital, sound, post and production service) met top creatives and producers from all over the world. Right after, Pascal Tonecker, Managing Producer of Pixomondo, opened the talks section with a presentation on the challenges of creating dragons for “Games of Thrones”. Later, Pete Favat (North American Chief Creative Officer at Deutsch Inc.) highlighted the importance of finding a brand’s “enemy” during the agency’s creative process and, at the end of the day, directors Tony Kaye and Ed Morris amazed the crowd with a moving conversation / live performance on acting.
On Friday 6th November, speakers included multi-awarded directors Jones+Tino, the legendary Susan Hoffman (Global ECD at Wieden+Kennedy) and Dougal Wilson, who inspired everyone in the room sharing the details of his puzzling creative process. (See the complete list of guests)
For two days, people also had the chance to experience first-hand the latest in immersive technologies at the Next Room, a curated virtual reality exhibition. During the event, nine companies introduced their latest projects: WeMakeVR, The Mill, Nozon, UNIT9, Tool of North America, Bullitt, Framestore, Stinkdigital, and Vrse.works.
To end on a high note, CICLOPE Festival continued at Soho House Berlin, one of the best spots in the city to share a drink and keep on celebrating craft in moving image.
Ciclope Festival 2018 was a success with more than 1,000 entries, 700 delegates and more than 100 people taking part in networking activities.
